Looking for a meaningful gift for a diver, a first responder or someone who simply appreciates well-made tools? The Marathon OSAR-D, reference WW194006SS-2005, is a 41mm Swiss automatic with a black Type I dial and a stainless steel bracelet, and it comes with a story worth telling.
That story starts with the SAR-D, the watch Marathon supplied to Canadian Search and Rescue Technicians in the early 2000s. Marathon, a family-owned company founded in 1904, re-engineered the design and relaunched it as the OSAR-D in 2024. The new version keeps the bold geometric indices and the magnified date at 3 o'clock while adding the modern essentials: a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, a sapphire crystal, 300 meters of water resistance and MaraGlo lume on the indices, hands and bezel pip.
Practical gifts are the ones that get worn, and the OSAR-D is easy to wear every day. Its 41mm case is 13.5mm thick with 20mm lugs, the automatic movement winds itself with normal wear, and the stainless steel bracelet looks as right with a dress shirt as with a dive skin.
