Green is the color of the Swiss Alps in summer, and it is the obvious choice for a watch whose strap comes from those mountains. This 38mm Oris X Cervo Volante pairs an Alpine-inspired green dial with leather that has a conscience.

The strap is the heart of the project. Cervo Volante, founded in 2017 by biotechnology engineer Kadri Vunder Fontana and biologist Conny Thiel-Egenter, works with hides from wild red deer culled for Swiss population control, skins that would otherwise be burned. They are naturally tanned in Switzerland and keep the small natural marks that mass-produced leather would sand away. Oris made the collaboration part of its Change for the Better sustainability mission.

The watch itself is a classic Big Crown Pointer Date, a design Oris first launched in 1938: an oversized crown, a fluted bezel and a crescent-tipped hand that points to the date around the dial. At 38mm with 19mm lugs, it is an easy everyday size, and the Oris 754 automatic is visible through the caseback window.
