description
Grey steel and desert tan nylon make one of the best color pairings in military gear, and reference WW194003SS-0009 puts them together on Marathon's 36mm Steel General Purpose Mechanical. Add a U.S. Government dial and a hand-wound Swiss movement, and the result feels straight out of a field kit.
The SSGPM's 316L stainless case is Parkerized, a matte grey treatment borrowed from military hardware that keeps reflections down and gives the steel an understated, tool-like look. Here it is paired with an 11-inch desert tan DefStan nylon strap, which warms up the grey and suits khaki, canvas and denim. The black dial carries the "U.S. Government" marking at the top, with matching government markings on the caseback, plus 12- and 24-hour scales and tritium tubes that glow all night.
Marathon's first military contract came in 1941, and the company went on to supply field watches to Allied forces during the war. The SSGPM honors that history with a Swiss Sellita SW210-1 manual-wind movement, 18 jewels and around 45 hours of reserve, protected by sapphire crystal and 5 ATM water resistance in an 11mm-thick case.
