Marathon's Arctic dials were created for legibility in bright and snowy conditions, where dark markings on a white face read faster than the reverse. On the JDD, that clarity extends to the oversized day and date windows, and the result is a watch that is easy to read at a glance whether you are on a sunlit dock or a glacier. Tritium gas tubes on the indices and hands provide constant illumination once the light fades.
The Arctic JDD shares its engineering with the rest of the Jumbo Day/Date line. Inside the 316L steel case, 46mm wide and 18mm thick, is a Sellita SW220 automatic movement with 26 jewels, Incabloc shock protection and about 41 hours of power reserve. The day wheel can be set in English or French. A screw-down crown with guards delivers 30 ATM of water resistance, a domed sapphire crystal protects the dial, and a 120-click unidirectional bezel with a MaraGlo pip handles dive timing. On its brushed steel bracelet, offered here with Marathon, Maple Leaf, Canadian Armed Forces, U.S. Great Seal or Official USMC emblem clasps, plus an Official IDF Duvdevan version, the Arctic JDD is equally suited to the water or a weekday.
