Plenty of dive watches promise toughness, but few deliver it in a case that actually fits a slimmer wrist. MSAR stands for Medium Search and Rescue, and the name is literal. Marathon's SAR diver's watches were developed to Canadian Government requirements for search and rescue work, and the MSAR keeps every essential: 300 meters of water resistance, a screw-down crown flanked by crown guards, a sapphire crystal and an oversized 120-click unidirectional bezel you can grip with gloves on. The dial carries only the MARATHON name, with no government markings, so the black face reads clean and purposeful. Self-powered tritium gas tubes keep the hour markers and hands visible in the dark, and a MaraGlo pip marks the bezel.

The payoff is proportion. At 36mm across and roughly 14mm thick, with 18mm lugs, the watch sits flat and centered instead of hanging off the edges of a six- or seven-inch wrist. The steel bracelet adds just enough heft to feel like proper equipment.
