The extra length is the point here. A standard strap can run out of room over a thick sleeve, a dry suit cuff or simply a larger wrist; the 12-inch one-piece military nylon threads beneath the case and still leaves enough tail to secure neatly. It is the same strap style that has kept field watches attached to service members for decades, built to the MIL-S-46383B standard.
