Plenty of Marathon collectors start with a black-dial SAR and soon realize they want its opposite. The Marathon TSAR WW194007SS-0512 is that natural second watch: the same 41mm Swiss quartz Tritium Search and Rescue diver, but with an Arctic white dial on a stainless steel bracelet.

Owning both versions makes more sense than it first sounds. The black dial is the stealthy one, the white Arctic dial is the one you reach for in summer or when you want a little more contrast on your wrist. Since the TSAR runs on Swiss ETA F06.115 HeavyDrive quartz, it doesn't matter if the white one sits in a watch box for a few weeks; pick it up and it is already showing the right time, and its tritium is already glowing. That makes quartz a smart choice for anyone building a rotation.

From a collecting perspective, the TSAR also represents a key chapter in the SAR story. The line was developed to Canadian Government requirements for search and rescue, and the TSAR is the quartz counterpart to Marathon's automatic GSAR, sharing its 41mm footprint, oversized bezel and guarded crown. The Arctic dial was designed for legibility in bright and snowy conditions, so even the "dressier" option has a functional reason to exist.
