So what is the difference? Tritium gas tubes are self-powered and glow continuously, but some buyers prefer to avoid them or simply like the look of painted lume. MaraGlo is a photoluminescent compound: give it a few minutes of daylight or lamp light and it charges up, then glows for several hours afterward. On a matte black dial, the effect is bright and even, and the markers have a fuller painted appearance.

Everything else is classic NAV-D. The lightweight composite shell case keeps the watch barely noticeable on the wrist, the sapphire crystal resists scratches, and the bi-directional 12-hour bezel traces back to the Navigator Marathon designed with Kelly Air Force Base in 1986. The Swiss ETA F06.115 HeavyDrive quartz movement drives high-torque hands, and the dial carries no government markings. A black nylon strap completes this understated pilot's watch.
