A watch first introduced in 1938 has no business feeling this fresh, yet the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date in turquoise blue manages it. The bright dial takes the most traditional design in the Oris catalogue and gives it a confident, modern mood.
The Pointer Date’s signature has never changed: instead of a window, a center hand with a crescent tip sweeps around the outer track to point at the date. It keeps the dial symmetrical and uncluttered, and it is a complication you rarely see at this level. This updated 40mm stainless steel version, reference 01 754 7798 4065-07 8 20 06, adds Super-LumiNova to the markers and hands and pairs the case with an H-link steel bracelet that follows the wrist closely and closes with an Oris-developed folding clasp.
The Oris Calibre 754 automatic, built on a Sellita base, gives 41 hours of reserve and beats at 4 Hz, and you can watch the red rotor through the display back. At 12mm thick and 47.5mm lug to lug it wears neatly on most wrists.
